Details are what make the bigger picture. No one seems to understand that better then Milton Glasner. He doodled a sketch for the famous “I love NY” on the bus, and through that seemingly small design he shifted an entire city’s consciousness. People who lived in New York City and the tourists there embraced this new icon and now it can be seen in almost every country. However, no one really thinks about who is behind this simple, yet revolutionary design.
This documentary taught me that it’s the small things that can make the biggest impact. Although it has been said multiple times that less is more, “To Inform and Delight” helped really prove it and drilled it into my brain. Even though there is no denying that Glasner is an incredible artist, the “I love New York” logo is an example of how you don’t always need artistic skills to design. I shall try to keep my work simple and concise but with an unexpected twist, because if there is anything I would take away from this documentary is that sometimes the most powerful message is the one that is delivered clearly, but still remains original.
