The LG logo is a good example of a logo that uses Gestalt principles well. First, the LG logo is very much based around figure/ground in that the shape created by the red circle actually becomes the ground and then the white text becomes the figure that catches your idea. This is so much more interesting than the opposite would be. A white circle with a big red G and a small red L and dot inside of that would be less appealing to look at, especially since more color would be needed to define the circle around the G. The whole logo would look busier and more crowded and would provide the friendly, simple look that it currently does.
Another principle used here is closure. Though the image presented is just two letters and a dot, it is easy to see the face that the logo is meant to create. The G circles around in the viewers brain, enclosing the rest of the face. And though there is only one dot, it is easy to imagine the place where the other “eye” would fit.
