Just like many of my classmates, I was very surprised by how often I passively come across Helvetic, it’s really everywhere. I learned that it’s perfect for just about anything because it’s pretty plain and easy to read in any color and size. Before this course, I knew that people picked different fonts for different purposes, but it’s not until now that I realize that things like the x-height and length of the stem and terminal are important in design. In the evolution of type, which Lupton outlined, the look and mood that type evokes is what design is based on.
